The article described what the two founders had set out to do: help proptech companies assemble the property vehicles they cannot finance on their own. An operator with three deals behind it will not be underwritten by a real estate investor, and a real estate investor rarely has the venture capital reflexes needed to judge an operator. Thibault Weston Smith and Mathias Flattin each came from one side of that gap.
It was the first time a French real estate trade title treated the pairing of venture capital and property investment as a structure rather than a curiosity. Everything since has been built on it.
